IFTTT Integration

I've got an IFTTT applet:

If my iKettle 3.0 has boiled, then signal to SmartThings to turn off the virtual kettle switch.

It last ran of Feb 21. From then, until Feb 24, it reports: "The Smarter service or its API may temporarily be down." After that, I have nothing logged. I guess IFTTT decided that enough was enough.

Can somebody get it restarted, please, so I can get my Kettle and my house talking to each other again?

I have got a similar issue. I can trigger my kettle and coffeemaker from IFTTT, but I have several applets that should run, after boiling or cooling but nothing happens after about 22 February. None of the applets get triggered no matter how often I create a knew one. I only get the notification through the official app

Same issue still. The app gets notified, IFTTT does not, oddly enough my support request was closed with no feedback marked as solved.... but its not. Smarter just gives out *The Smarter service or its API may temporarily be down.* so yeah...

So it actually is a real issue! Encouraging to hear that.
Really sad on the other hand though, seeing communication that bad and a major, highly promoted function having a ridiculously long downtime :(

Personally im hoping the release a Smartthings device handler so i can skip their back end entirely, they had a poll about it but people voted for apple home intergration instead, and apple have VERY strict requirements for devices. I still have not been able to add a second user and they have stopped responding to my comments about it. Not bad hardwear but unfortunately the software seems to be lacking.

Noticed the problem aswell, IFTT integration is broken, emailing support does not get you anywhere (they keep rolling out the same play book, and don't even seem to read when you tell them that you have done all the previous steps before).

This is just another nice example of a company that really wants to create an IOT device, then completely failes because it's dependant on a third party for integration and for some reason can't seem to fix it.

If they could only look at their highest voted feature request :)

Whoops! Thanks for alerting me. On investigation, I've got a bug in my SmartThings rules which "incorrectly" turns off my kettle virtual switch without any connection to the IFTTT communication. Looking through my IFTTT activity, I've got nothing after 21st February, and drilling into the settings for the Applet has errors all the way up to March 20th.

So it looks like Emma's update on the 5th March was wrong :(

I'll fix my SmartThings setup, and reactivate my phone notifications, I guess. At least they work (as far as I know!) and then I've got a different IFTTT app which passes them through to ST. I wish I didn't need the extra step of involving my phone, but if it works...

Let us know if you figure out a work around, I tried checking if stringify would work but then i had to use tasker to pass the details to stringify >_< at the moment i've got an old android phone with the smarter app, tasker and smartthings installed which is passing the notifications... a horrendous mess of a workaround but with no alternative... oh well.

Workaround for Android. It's probably equivalent for iOS, but I can't check.

You'll need the Smarter and IFTTT installed.

In the Smarter app, under Notifications, ensure that "Boil Finished" is turned on.

In IFTTT set up an applet:

    • IF Service: Android Device
    • Trigger: Notification received from a specific App
    • App Name: Smarter
    • Filter by notification keyword: Boiling Finished
    • THAT Action Service: SmartThings
    • Action: Switch off
    • Device: "Your virtual Switch"

If you've got multiple kettles(!) then you may be able to change the trigger keywords for each kettle. Obviously, you only need this on one device, but that device needs connectivity. You'll get the Smarter Notification sitting around on that device, which I don't like, but you don't have to clear it (other than because I don't like it!): repeated notifications will work.

Oh neat. i didn't realise that the ifttt app could intercept Notifications, ive been using tasker for that. Thanks for that.

    Hi everyone!

We can see that several of you are having issues with IFTTT, our development team is looking into what is causing this to resolve it.

The more information we have about the issue the better we can resolve it!

Can everyone who is having an issue with IFTTT drop support an email at support@smarter.am with the subject line "IFTTT error" with the below information.

    - Smarter account email address

    - IFTTT account email address/IFTTT name

    - Details of the applet or applets you are having issues with.

    - Detail of the exact issue you are experiencing.

    We greatly appreciate your help!

    Best wishes,

    Emma

Still an issue. I've no idea why it's at such irregular times.

    Hi,

The IFTTT services have been running fine for many months. An applet check will occasionally fail - I'm not sure what mechanism they use as it doesn't reach our server.

Current health for the last day is as below:

There are at least three main sections of activity that can affect whether things work - our gateway, the trigger/action gateway on the 'other end',. and IFTTT itself.

    Cheers,

    Hi Gareth,

You seem like a somewhat more technical person than "Emma", do you mind giving the thread https://support.smarter.am/hc/en-us/community/posts/115003744705-SmartHome-Integration an update?

It's 2019 now so I can imagine SMARTER has had time to think about the most wanted feature request on the forum?

If security is still an issue (would be somewhat of a wtf of course), but if it's really still about that, is it not possible to add some unlock feature that first asks the user to agree to some legal stuff and then gives the more tech savvy people something beter to work with?

Sure ifttt is stable, but my internet connection is not.
