There is a certain batch of the iKettle 1.0 which has been known to develop this flaw after some use.
I would be more than happy to get a replacement kettle 2.0 iKettle body for you! It has a stronger lid with an improved design so there is no possibility of the issue returning and will be compatible with the base you already have.
