    Hi Emma,

Are you planning on updating older devices (3rd gen) with HomeKit capability?

Or are you perhaps saving it for the 4th Gen which you'll be announcing at CES? ;)

    Hello Emma

I and many people I know are holding back purchasing the iKettle as we are waiting on the Apple HomeKit integration. Promises are not the same as reality. Your company is missing out on a lot of sales opportunity :-/  In the mean time I will continue to search the www for alternatives. Here's hoping you get the iKettle certified and working with HomeKit. Also, just a small suggestion; visual water levels on the kettle as well as via the app would be popular. Us humans like to see things ;-)

Never! They string us along by saying it's on the roadmap but never give an estimate on when.

It's 100% being added to their next product the Smart Kettle v4

Hmmm. Seems odd there is no HomeKit support - what do they have to hide?

    Hello,

We hear your calls for HomeKit support!

We have been in talks with Apple to enable HomeKit support for the iKettle 3rd Generation and Smarter Coffee – 2nd Generation. Apple does need to make some updates to their server to make this a reality.

HomeKit support will be live before the end of the year. :)

We will push a notification to you when it’s live!

Thanks for the more detailed response Emma, it is appreciated.

I thought Apple added support in iOS 11.3 for HomeKit software authentication?

    Hi James,

HomeKit software authentication means that Smart Home manufacturers, such as ourselves, don't have to change the hardware and bring out new products to become HomeKit enabled, it can be done via software.

Apple does still need to make some updates to their servers in order to support kettle and coffee. :)

Any news Emma? Where is it on the roadmap these days, or is it all about the Fridgecam now?

Is anyone else waiting for this?

I think I’m going to sell it to be honest

This has been ongoing and promised for a long time now. Smarter clearly are unable to meet the secure authentication requirements set by Apple to make their products compliant to work with HomeKit which is why it only works with less secure Android solutions.

    Hi James,

I too am waiting for this and have made several direct enquiries.  Literally everything in my home is HomeKit with the one exception of my Kettle which I have to control with a Google Home (it's only use).

It will certainly be great to have everything inside HomeKit when it finally becomes available.

Couldn’t the Smarter app be updated to use the new Siri shortcuts feature in Apple’s iOS 12? This would allow all Smarter kettles to boil using Siri?

Robert you are a genius! It works!

I’ve just got Siri to turn on my Smarter Kettle!!!

Siri Shortcuts App with two text fields, one containing the key, the other with event name.

Then a URL request section containing variables from the text fields over to the IFTTT Maker webhook

    IFTTT to Smarter

    Today was a good day!!!

Happy to help anyone if needed.

I already had the IFTTT part nailed but here’s a helpful guide for the IFTTT and Siri parts

You don't need to just use Siri Shortcuts. You can have it in HomeKit using HomeBridge. If you link Smarter to IFTTT, you can use the HomeBridge plugin for IFTTT to link it into HomeKit and get an on/off switch like all your other HomeKit devices. I've done this with my iKettle v3, but linked IFTTT to a virtual device in SmartThings and then linked that to HomeKit with HomeBridge.
